Consolidated Industries Corporation (CIC) has been producing its own bleach for its cleaning product portfolio since 2008. Due to growing demand and ageing installations, the need arose to future‑proof both capacity and reliability. To continue meeting market demand in the years ahead, CIC worked together with VDH on a solution that increases capacity, safeguards continuity and integrates seamlessly into the existing infrastructure.
The original situation
Since 2008, CIC produced its own bleach using a Chlorinsitu® III installation, which was already expanded once in 2013. Due to growing market demand and intensive use, the installations were increasingly under pressure. At the same time, the systems reached the end of their technical lifespan, making replacement necessary to continue guaranteeing capacity and operational continuity.
The goal
The shared goal of CIC and VDH was to future-proof the bleach production, enabling CIC to continue meeting growing market demand in the long term. Bleach is a key component of CIC’s cleaning product range and therefore requires a stable, reliable and scalable production facility.
The focus was placed on three main objectives. First, increasing production capacity to allow CIC to respond flexibly to rising demand and further expansion of its product portfolio. Secondly, ensuring operational reliability was essential. The existing installations had reached the end of their technical lifetime, making replacement necessary to prevent failures and unplanned downtime.
A third key objective was to realise this capacity expansion with minimal impact on ongoing production. Continuity was critical: the availability of bleach could not be compromised during the transition. This required a technically robust solution that could be smartly integrated into the existing infrastructure.
Finally, efficiency played an important role. CIC aimed to invest in modern technology that not only adds capacity, but also results in a more efficient production process with reduced maintenance, lower operational risks and a solid foundation for the years ahead.
These objectives formed the basis for the design, engineering and phased implementation of the new bleach production installations.
The process
VDH proactively approached CIC with a proposal to renew and expand the bleach production facility. After jointly defining the project parameters, the technical design was developed, reusing existing components where possible and integrating new technology. Following a testing phase, the installation was built and commissioned in phases, allowing production to continue with minimal downtime. After commissioning, VDH continues to support CIC with service and aftercare to ensure stable production.
